Sculptures by the Sea
63
Each year in spring time, Bondi beach is host to the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition which is free of charge and open to the general public. In this exhibition, hundreds of artistic sculptures are placed along the beach and the rocks from where the Bondi to Bronte walk path begins.
I like this exhibition because the sculptures on display are unique in their design, concept and materials which were used in construction. On their own they exhibit the artistry and talent of their sculptors. However, when these pieces of art are set against the backdrop of the ocean, it changes the context of their being and what they now represent is left to the imagination of the observer.
Some sculptures are inspiring because they evoke new ideas and fuels the imagination in us all. Others may represent objects which are familiar to us but command attention simply because they are “larger than life”.
People enjoy this exhibition because it is one of Australia’s largest outdoor exhibitions which showcases unique pieces of artworks which is set against breath-taking views of the ocean and Sydney’s coastal seascapes. The undulating footpath makes the walk in itself a rewarding form of exercise.
A recommended itinerary would be to either head to Bondi beach for a good hearty breakfast and then work it off by attending this walk or reward yourself with lunch thereafter, or both. Either way, you will come away with an experience which is truly Sydney.

It's nice to get a feel for a place I have never visited. You make me want to visit Bondi during this sculpture festival. I enjoy art and these pieces are exceptional.
